I am looking For a Teacher

I am looking for a teacher
Who is beautiful inside
Honest with the students
Giving them a sense of pride

I am looking for a teacher
With a healthy self esteem
Who clearly states the rules
And doesn’t have to scream

I am looking for a teacher
Who creatively prepares
But Whose first priority
Is to convey that she cares

I am looking for a teacher
Who is interested, not aloof
Who treat her students with respect
Even when they goof

I am looking for a teacher
Who knows how to laugh and smile
Who enjoys what she’s doing
And goes the extra miles

I am looking for a teacher
Who believes all students can learn
Who praises their efforts and talents
They give their best return

I am looking for a teacher
Who communicates with parents well
Gently and carefully selecting words
When there’s problem to tell

I am looking for a teacher
Who will fill a child with desire
To love to learn more every day
With curiosity that won’t tire

I am looking for a teacher
Who encourages children to have a dream
To work at solving problems
Building their self esteem

There are some teachers out there
The kind I am looking for
For their student’s success
They have opened the door.

Young minds prove their mettle
By : Teresa Yong

KUALA LUMPUR: The inventors may be young, but their creations may prove to be ageless. For budding inventor and participant of the Shell-NST Young Inventors Award 2008, Saeshan Pillai, the motto for creating an aircraft that runs on a renewable source of energy was "Make it Fly".

His idea was to invent a plane that would be powered by the sun's energy, which is absorbed by a solar panel and is stored in a specially-adapted battery."I got the idea of creating the mini plane from watching a movie," said the 11-year-old.
Persevering through trial and error, Saeshan finally created his mini plane with the support of his dad, Selvaraju Pillai, a human resource director in a chemical company.

In the secondary school category, SMK King George V, Seremban, Negri Sembilan, emerged champion. Comprising of Timothy Kwan Joon Ming, Puay Sheng Hwa, both 18, and 16-year-olds Lee Yin Yin and Marya Suflin Muhamad Halim Shah, the team cooked up the winning Georgian Solar Cooker made from recycled materials and costing only about RM10.

It is touted to be 3E-effective, economical and environment-friendly, as well as portable.Kwan said the partially panelled and parabolic cooker works on the concept of light reflection. Sunlight is concentrated in a cooking area and then reflected to the cooking pot. At the presentation, they showed a video clip of how they cooked various dishes, from eggs to chicken curry, using their invention. The only drawback is that the cooker does not work on a cloudy day and it took three to four hours to cook chicken curry, said Yin Yin, who turned 16 yesterday.

Second prize winners were the four-member team from SMK Muzaffar Syah, Malacca, who invented the Midori Table and third place went to the four-girl team from SMK Sultan Ibrahim, Johor Baru, Johor, for their Solar Fan cum Energy Storage.

SMK Kolombong, Inaman, Sabah, which invented the Hydro-Wind Generator; Malay College Kuala Kangsar, Perak, which created the Modern Solar Dryer (soldra); SMK Tasik Damai, Ipoh, Perak, which came up with the Vacuum-Fire Extinguisher, SMK Convent, Ipoh, Perak, which put together the Hydrojuicer, were awarded consolation prizes of RM500, a trophy and certificates.

NIE manager Mary Chandapillai said the Award was a celebration of creativity and the culmination of a series of workshops held nationwide from June 24 to 30 on the theme "Can Technology Save Our Planet?"Sixty entries were received and 10 finalists were selected and given RM200 seed money to come up with workable prototypes.

Chief judge Ahmad Zahir commented that the participants achieved a certain high standard, but some of them needed to develop their hypotheses more clearly.
"Your creative idea should be simple and very clear. It is not necessary for it to be sophisticated." While some schools were good in presenting their ideas, others needed to improve their presentation, he added.

Shell Malaysia corporate affairs general manager Datuk Wahiruddin Abdul Wahid said Shell was committed to supporting R&D in education through innovation and technology to reduce waste. He thanked NST for creating climate change awareness that resulted in "wonderful, inspiring supplements written by students".He added that the award was a fine example of encouraging our youths and rewarding them for thinking out of the box.NST group editor Datuk Syed Nadzri Syed Harun was also present at the ceremony.

YES DEAR - 25 Aug 2008

A Million Dollar Lesson
by : Petey Parker

A cab driver taught me a million dollar lesson in customer satisfaction and expectation. Motivational speakers charge thousands of dollars to impart his kind of training to corporate executives and staff. It cost me a $12 taxi ride. I had flown into Dallas for the sole purpose of calling on a client. Time was of the essence and my plan included a quick turnaround trip from and back to the airport. A spotless cab pulled up.

The driver rushed to open the passenger door for me and made sure I was comfortably seated before he closed the door. As he got in the driver's seat, he mentioned that the neatly folded Wall Street Journal next to me for my use. He then showed me several tapes and asked me what type of music I would enjoy.

Well! I looked around for a "Candid Camera!" Wouldn't you? I could not believe the service I was receiving! I took the opportunity to say, "Obviously you take great pride in your work. You must have a story to tell." "You bet," he replied, "I used to be in Corporate America. But I got tired of thinking my best would never be good enough. I decided to find my niche in life where I could feel proud of being the best I could be.

I knew I would never be a rocket scientist, but I love driving cars, being of service and feeling like I have done a full day's work and done it well. I evaluate my personal assets and... wham! I became a cab driver.

One thing I know for sure, to be good in my business I could simply just meet the expectations of my passengers. But, to be GREAT in my business, I have to EXCEED the customer's expectations! I like both the sound and the return of being 'great' better than just getting by on 'average'" Did I tip him big time? You bet! Corporate America's loss is the traveling folk's friend!
Lessons:
· Go an Extra Mile when providing any Service to others.
· The is no good or bad job. You can make any job good.
· Good service always brings good return.

PMR & SPM Trial - Melaka

GOOD LUCK TO ALL FORM 3 & FORM 5 STUDENTS. DO YOUR BEST.

The Olympic is just over, but there's something we all can learn from it. Here is what I found on the internet.

An Olympic Lesson in Motivation:

The saying goes: The expert in anything was once a beginnerin everything. Truer words were never spoken. But this isn't what we see. This isn't what we feel when we watch these Olympians. It isn't what we think when we watch any expert or great success. We see the finished product, shining brightly in designer packaging. We see triumph and achievement, not training. We see the riches, not the rags. And this, as much as anything else, is why motivation - that inner drive that carries us toward all we desire - continuesto escape us. Today that comes to an end. Today I will open your eyes to a new way of viewing the changes you wish to carry out and the challenges that are attempting to stop you. The Olympians we admire might possess unique physical talentand natural gifts, but that inner fire that compels them forward is within us all. It's time to set it free.

A Visit To The Happiness Centre

On 8th July 2008,48 members of the English Language Society with our teacher advisor, Mrs. Ivy visited the Happiness Centre For The Mentally Disabled Children in Klebang. As soon as we arrived, we were given a short briefing by Mr. Roy the founder of the centre. He was very thankful for the 16 packets of diapers which we donated. For your information, the ELS members have been collecting old newspapers from the classes since April. The money to buy the diapers came from the sale of the newspapers.

What we learnt from our visit?

There are 32 children at the centre. The oldest is a 33 year old boy and the youngest is a 5 year old boy. Only 4 of them are able to walk while the rests are bed- ridden. 9 children are regarded critical cases. They cannot walk and are 100% dependent on people to feed and bath them. Most of these children have multiple disabilities meaning that they have more than one disability ranging from blindness, deaf, dumb, epilepsy, down syndrome, mentally retarded and cerebral palsy. There are 6 parents who visit their children once a month while the rests of the parents only come once a year during festive celebration such as Chinese New Year, Hari Raya, Deepavali and Christmas.

We now, would like to share with you some of the reasons why these children are mentally disabled.

According to Mr. Roy,
Firstly, young unmarried girls, when they discovered they were pregnant, they tried to abort the foetus by taking all kinds of drugs and traditional herbs and in so doing has caused birth deformities.
Secondly, young mothers who in their quest to be slim and attractive tried all kinds of so called miracle products which unintentionally affected the foetus.
Thirdly, during child birth complication occured.

What we did there?

We played, talked and even sang with the children. Even though they are disabled children, they love visitors so much and were happy to take photographs with us.

Our feelings when we left.

We realized how lucky and thankful we are to be able to see, speak, hear, walk and run. In addition, community awareness is still lacking. Lastly, there is so much more we can do towards community service.

Trial exams and Test 2

Good luck and try your best especially in answering English papers.

Nothing to Fear

There's nothing to fear ---
you're as good as the best,
As strong as the mightiest, too.
You can win in every battle or test;
For there's no one just like you.
There's only one you in the world today;
So nobody else, you see,
Can do your work in as fine a way:
You're the only you there'll be !

So face the world, and all life is yours
To conquer and love and live
:And you'll find the happiness that endures
In just the measure you give;
There's nothing too good for you to possess,
Nor heights where you cannot go:
Your power is more than belief or guess
--- It is something you have to know.

There is nothing to fear --- you can and you will.
For you are the invincible you.
Set your foot on the highest hill ---
There's nothing you cannot do.

Yes DEAR - 29 July 2008

Lesson in Unconditional Love

I am a mother of three (ages 14, 12, 3) and have recently completed my college degree. The last class I had to take was Sociology. The teacher was absolutely inspiring with the qualities that I wish every human being had been graced with. Her last project of the term was called "Smile". The class was asked to go out and smile at three people and document their reaction.
I am a very friendly person and always smile at everyone and say hello anyway.....so, I thought, this would be a piece of cake (literally).Soon after we were assigned the project, my husband, youngest son, and I went out to McDonalds, one crisp March morning. It was just our way of sharing special play time with our son.
We were standing in line, waiting to be served, when all of a sudden everyone around us began to back away, and then even my husband did. I did not move an inch...an overwhelming feeling of panic welled up inside of me as I turned to see why they had moved. As I turned around I smelled a horrible "dirty body" smell...and there standing behind me were two poor homeless men. As I looked down at the short gentleman, close to me, he was "smiling"...his beautiful sky blue eyes were full of God's Light as he searched for acceptance.
He said, "Good day" as he counted the few coins he had been clutching. The second man fumbled with his hands as he stood behind his friend. I realized the second man was mentally deficient and the blue eyed gentle man was his salvation. I held my tears......as I stood there with them. The young lady at the counter asked him what they wanted. He said, "Coffee is all Miss" because that was all they could afford (to sit in the restaurant and warm up they had to buy something...they just wanted to be warm).
Then I really felt it...the compulsion was so great I almost reached out and embraced the little man with the blue eyes. That is when I noticed all eyes in the restaurant were set on me...judging my every action. I smiled and asked the young lady behind the counter to give me two more breakfast meals on a separate tray. I then walked around the corner to the table that the men had chosen as a resting spot. I put the tray on the table and laid my hand on the blue eyed gentleman's cold hand. He looked up at me, with tears in his eyes, and said, "Thank you". I leaned over, began to pat his hand and said, "I did not do this for you...God is here working through me to give you hope". I started to cry as I walked away to join my husband and son. When I sat down my husband smiled at me and said, "That is why God gave you to me honey....to give me hope". We held hands for a moment and at that time we knew that only because of the Grace were we able to give .....
That day showed me the pure Light of God's sweet love.I returned to college, on the last evening of class, with this story in hand. I turned in "my project" and the instructor read it....then she looked up at me and said, "Can I share this?" I slowly nodded as she got the attention of the class. She began to read and that is when I knew that we as human beings (part of God) share this need to heal. In my own way I had touched the people at McDonalds, my husband, son, instructor, and every soul that shared the classroom on the last night I spent as a college student. I graduated with one of the biggest lessons I would ever learn....unconditional acceptance......after all....we are here to learn!

Yes DEAR & PIES

Students also have magazines such as Just English Explorers in class and can find many interesting articles at The R.E.D Tunnel (Read, Explore & Digest). Every week the students are also given PIES articles to help them in vocabulary and pronunciation. The students are also given a short story a week to be read and used to help them in their writing. The stories are taken and selected from the internet. This year's theme is motivational and inspiring stories.

Success Doesn't Happen Overnight

A Long Journey to Success
Life's many roads, lead us in many different directions on different paths,
On these roads of travel we see new people, new things,
Everything appears to be perfect.
But, there shall come times when the road is long,
The journey seems rough and the new people,
Places and things you once saw, are no longer around…
You stand alone.
Even though the road may then seem lonely, you keep pushing on -
Praying -
Believing that "Yes I can, Yes I will."
And when no one else believes in you, you believe in yourself.
I know the road was hard, it was long
-Because I traveled the same path.
So don't look back, just continue to push forward -
All that are in the way, move them out - shun the negativity.
Stay head strong, thank
God for everything -Especially for this long harsh road.
Because it was simply
A long journey to success.

Welcome

Greetings from Melaka!
